March 26, 2015

On Thursday afternoon at 1532 hours the Hazardous Materials Incident assignment was dispatched alerting Company 6, Haz Mat 13, Haz-Mat 18, EMS Station 6 and the County Fire Chief. Callers reported a subject at the Callaway Post Office had opened and suspicious package and began feeling various symptoms. Utility 5 responded with two Haz-Mat Technicians and reported to the scene. Upon arrival members assisted prior arriving units with setting up for the arrival of Haz-Mat 181 and with preparing the decon area.

A member from Haz-Mat 18 and a member from Haz-Mat 13, both to donned Class B suits and prepped for recon. A crew member from Utility 5 also stood by as the recon was conducted. The recon group determined there was no threat after performing several tests and the incident was declared a good intent call. Units assisted with decontamination and clean up for a short period before returning to service. Utility 5 operated for just over 2 hours on the incident.
