By Fire Chief J.A. Nelson
December 19, 2015

On Saturday, December 19th a crew on Engine 52 participated in the Fight Like a Kid 5K Fun Walk and Run. The event hosted by the Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department was in support of Nolan Scully who is battling a rare soft tissue cancer. We wish Nolan and his family the best of luck over the next several months. We know Nolan will keep fighting and be #NolanStrong.

Below is the story from www.hvfd7.com with additional details on the event and information on how you can show your support. We have also attached the flyers to this story that are mentioned below.

On Saturday, December 19th, hundreds of people braved the chilly weather to support our strong little buddy Nolan. The Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department was hosting a 5K Fun Walk and Run to help support Nolan Scully. For those who do not know last month Nolan was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma, a rather rare soft tissue cancer. Over the next several months Nolan will have to undergo numerous rounds of Chemo and Radiation to fight this terrible disease. This will also include numerous overnight visits to several hospitals over the next year. Many fundraisers have been coordinated to help alleviate some of the expenses that the Scully family will face over the next year.

The event on Saturday registered over 220 walkers/runners. This special group of dedicated men, women, and children braved the near freezing temperatures to support this great cause. As the crowd gathered at the Start/Finish line awaiting the horn to sound Nolan was in the front seat of one of his favorite firetrucks waiting anxiously to send them off. Nolan was the one who got to sound the siren to send them on their way to tackle the 5K course. There was also a special visit from Santa and Mrs. Clause along with some of our favorite characters from Foundation 4 Hero’s. Along with the Walk/Run there were also raffles and t-shirts on sale. Everyone who participated in the event had a fantastic time.

Engine 73 stood by at the intersection of Lawrence Ave. and Church St. to cheer on and direct the individuals along the course.

Special thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Clause and the Foundation 4 Hero’s for their special visit. And a huge THANK YOU to Jared Trossbach and Haley Llyod for their hard work in organizing this event. We wish Nolan and his family the best and look forward to seeing them all again soon. We asked that everyone please keep this young boy and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

We have attached several fundraiser events that are coming up so please continue to check out www.hvfd7.com and www.lvfd1.org for any and all fundraisers in the near future to support Nolan Scully. Also keep up with the HVFD Facebook page for any and all upcoming events and fundraisers
