Motor Vehicle Accident On Maddox Road

By: Fire Chief J.A. Nelson
Date: January 17, 2010

On Sunday evening Stations 5, 59, 19 and the medic were alerted to a motor vehicle accident on Maddox Road in the area of Manor Road. The accident was reported to be head on with unknown injuries. Units arrived on the scene and located two vehicles in the road with one patient still in one vehicle.

Chief 5 established the Maddox Command. Squad 5 arrived and positioned between the two vehicles. Chief 5A held the operations and had the crew pull tools and pop a door on the vehicle with the patient inside. Once the patient was extricated, the crew assisted EMS with loading them into the ambulance. It was discovered that two additional patients were in the vehicle and left the scene to go to the hospital.

A short time later one of the ambulances from Company 59 made contact with these two patients who had walked away from the scene and had not gone to the hospital. In total 4 patients were transported priority two to St. Mary's Hospital.

Crews assisted the Sheriff's Office with lighting and cleaning the roadway before returning to quarters. Once all the patients were transported, command was terminated.
