Leonardtown Chimney Fire

By: Fire Chief J.A. Nelson
Date: February 08, 2010

On Monday morning at 0450 hours, Staion 5 was alerted mutual aid to Station 1 for a Chimney fire located on Maypole Road in Leonardtown. Engine 54 responded with 4 while Engine 53 responded with 3. Chief 1 arrived on the scene and located at two story house with nothing evident.

After investigation, smoke was located on the second floor with fire in the walls. Due to icy conditions, first responding apparatus could not make it up the driveway to the scene. Before arrival, Engine 54 was advised to take a secondary driveway toward the rear of the structure. Engine 54, Truck 1 and Engine 74 were able to make it down this driveway. Engine 74 supplied Engine 54 and Truck 1 laddered the roof.

The crew from the Engine pulled a line to the second floor and quickly extinguished the fire in the walls. Crews worked together to open up the house by pulling walls and siding. Once the house was checked for further extension Command was terminated and all units returned to service.

Units: Engine 54, Engine 53
