Two Mechanicsville Fires In Four Hours

By: Fire Chief J.A. Nelson
Date: July 05, 2010

Early Saturday morning at 0137 hours, Station 5 was alerted to Waterview Drive in Golden Beach for Water Supply 5 on a working house fire assignment. Boat 5 was already out on a boat incident in Company 6's area. Water Supply 5 responded and set up draft at the Golden Beach Boat Ramp. Units from Mechanicsville and Hughesville arrived on the scene with a single story house with heavy fire conditions.

Water Supply 5 laid a 5" supply line from Engine 24 to the river to supply the fire scene. Once the water supply was established the crew assisted with overhaul operations. At 0310 hours Station 5 was alerted for a fill in at Company 2. Command requested two additional engine companies to the scene which took the fill in that was already at Company 2. While responding to the fill in, Engine 51 was diverted to the fire scene for additional manpower.

The crew from Engine 51 worked for about an hour doing overhaul operations. Engine 31 from Waldorf left the scene and while heading home came across another working fire on Golden Beach Road. Engine 51 responded to the scene along with Engine 74 and Engine 21. Engine 51 arrived and nosed up to Engine 31 and supplied a 3" line for a short period of time. The crew from Engine 31 had already pulled a line inside and made a knock on the fire. Chief 5 established the command while Lieutenant 7 held operations.

The crews from Engine 51 and Engine 74 set up ventilation and searched the house. The incident was held with Engine 31, Engine 51 and Engine 74. The fire investigator was requested and is investigating the incident.

All units cleared the scene and returned to quarters at 0808 hours.
