On Saturday and Sunday members took part in the annual Southern Maryland Convention. This year's convention was held in Leonardtown and sponsored by the Leonardtown Volunteer Rescue Squad. On Saturday, the memorial service and installation were held. The memorial service was held at Ryken High School where Sergeant Kyle Hecker and Bobby Bailey were honored.

The installation was held at Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department. At the installation the department received 2nd place for our fire prevention scrap book for our class. On Sunday, members returned to Leonardtown for the annual parade and firemen's games.

The parade lined up at Ryken and began at 1:00 p.m. Company 5 had 14 entries in the parade including our fire prevention wagon which was crewed by Kinsley Hecker. After the parade members participated in the Battle of the Buckets and the Bucket Brigade. Members gave a great effort in the games.

The trophies were given out after the games. The department brought home three trophies which were: Best Appearing Tanker, 2nd Best Boat and 2nd Best Special Unit for Water Supply 5.

We would like to congratulate all of the departments that won awards and wish the new Southern Maryland Officers a successful year.
