Over the past year and a half, the department's apparatus committee has been working on a new engine project. This project was to replace our current engine that is 23 years old. Engine 54 is a 1991 Saulsbury/Simon Duplex rescue engine that remains our front line fire suppression unit.

The committee made trips to other departments around the state looking at apparatus and reviewing different aspects of several manufacturers. During the process the committee took many notes, saw several well built units and came up with a specification to meet our needs.

After the specification process was complete, the committee selected CustomFIRE Apparatus as the manufacturer of the new engine. The engine will have a Spartan Gladiator 6 man cab, Cummins 500hp motor, Hale pump, 750 gallons of water along with numerous other features.

Our apparatus dealer who is selling us the engine is RedStorm Fire. They were also our dealer for Tanker 5. Please check back in the next several months for updates on the build process.
