On Saturday April 26, 2014 the annual Southern Maryland Convention was held at the Newburg Volunteer Fire Department in Charles County. The afternoon began with the memorial service honoring members of departments who passed away last year. After the memorial service the convention meeting was held. During the meeting the department was awarded 1st place in Class III for our fire prevention entry.

On Sunday the annual parade was held in Newburg. Members spent several days cleaning the apparatus in preparation for the event. Early Sunday morning the members headed to Newburg in the apparatus. The parade began at 1:00 p.m. and was followed by firefighter games at the Charles County Fairgrounds.

After all the games were complete the awards were given out. The department brought home three trophies for Best Appearing Tanker, Best Appearing Boat and winners of the Bucket Brigade Contest.

Everyone had a great time at the convention. Congratulations to all the departments that took home awards at the parade.
