On Sunday evening Stations 5 and 1 were alerted to an appliance fire on Abell Road in Abell. Engine 52 and Chief 5 responded and were advised that the caller had fire visible from the dryer and the assignment was upgraded. This added Stations 2, 7 and EMS Stations 59 and 19. Chief 5 arrived on the scene with heavy smoke showing and fire visible in the delta quadrant.

Engine 52 laid a supply line from Abell Road and the line was picked up by Engine 51. 52's crew pulled a hand line to Side D of the structure and located the fire just inside the door in the laundry room. Engine 52's crew made a quick knock on the fire and additional crews assisted with opening up. Tanker 5 held up behind Engine 51 and Squad 5 proceeded to the second driveway and operated as the special service. Company 5 units were staffed with 20 volunteers.

Chief 5 continued the rest of the assignment until crews were able to check the attic for extension. Engine 14 and Truck 1 arrived sending their crews to the scene and staged on Side A. Once it was confirmed there was no further extension the assignment was held with Company 5 only.

Crews ventilated and assisted the occupants with securing the property. Units operated for approximately an hour before returning to quarters. The fire was the result of a malfunctioning dryer.
