On Saturday evening at 2144, Company 5 was alerted for the reported vehicle fire on Upland Drive in Longview Beach. Engine 52 responded with six volunteers and arrived behind Chief 5A to find a single vehicle fully involved with fire extending to the surrounding brush. Engine 52's crew quickly deployed the front bumper line and knocked the surrounding brush and extinguished the vehicle fire. The vehicle had been abandoned and was unidentifiable so the State Fire Marshals Office was requested to the scene to investigate. Engine 52 remained on the scene mopping up and providing lighting for the investigation before returning to quarters at approximately 2315 hours.

A short time later, just after 0100 hours, Company 5, Squad 5, Squad 1, EMS 59 and 19 were alerted to the area of Colton Point Road and Maddox Road in Bushwood for a reported serious motor vehicle accident. Captain 5B arrived on scene just after dispatch and located a single vehicle off the roadway but was unable to locate a patient who had apparently already left the scene. The incident was scaled back to Companies 5 and 59. Squad 5 arrived on scene to secure the vehicle and at that time a small fire began in the engine compartment. The fire was quickly extinguished by the squad crew. The scene was turned over to the St. Marys County Sheriffs Office for further investigation. Crews left the station after time change from clean up just prior to 0400 hours on Sunday morning.

With time change everyone is reminded to change the batteries in your smoke detectors.
