Working Garage Fire On Abell Road

On Monday afternoon 1257 hours, Engine 5, Tanker 5, Tanker 1, Truck 1, Engine 2, Tanker 2, Truck 7, Engine 7, Charles Squad 2, and EMS Stations 59 and 29 were alerted to a report garage fire on Abell Road in Abell. Safety 5 advised responding units he had a 30" X 50" garage fully involved with vehicles inside. Engine 52 was first to arrive pulling a 2.5" line to the fire. Tanker 5 and Tanker 51 arrived next and supplied 52 and pulled additional lines to the fire.

Chief 5A established the Abell Road command. Tanker 14, Engine 23, Truck 7, Charles Squad 2 and Tanker 2 were utilized at the scene and all other units were held on Abell Road. The bulk of the fire was knocked down by the initial attack of Engine 52 and Tanker 51. Additional personnel assisted with extinguishment and overhaul.

Once the fire was under control command held the assignment with units on the scene. SMECO and the fire investigator were requested to the scene. Water Supply 5 was sent to a pond at the scene but after the fire was under control they were not needed to supply the fire ground.

Crews operated overhauling the scene for about 45 minutes. Company 5 units remained on the scene completing overhaul and assisting the fire investigator. All units returned to quarters in just over two hours.
