Early Friday morning Engine 1, Truck 1, Engine 7, Truck 7, Engine 9, Engine 5, Squad 5, EMS 19 and 79 were alerted to a house fire on Challedon Way in Leonard's Grant subdivision in Leonardtown. During the response of units, Fireboard advised the caller stated there was heavy fire visible. Chief 1 arrived on the scene located a two story house that was fully involved. Chief 1 established the command and requested both SMECO and the Fire Investigator. All occupants were out of the house upon arrival.

Engine 10 was first to arrive and initiated an interior attack on the fire. Engine 72 and Engine 11 assisted with the fire attack with Engine 10. Due to the stability of the second floor, the house was evacuated and ladder pipes were placed in service. Once the fire on the second floor was knocked down, crews transitioned back to an offensive attack and placed several hand lines in service inside the structure. Engine 52 and Squad 5 arrived and were initially sent to RIT. Squad 1 established RIT and Engine 52 assisted with fire attack while Squad 5 assisted with opening up the first floor.

All crews operated until the fire was brought under control in about 30 minutes. Once the fire was under control crews continued to work conducting overhaul. Engine 52 and Squad 5 operated for approximately two and a half hours on scene before returning to quarters. The State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the fire.
