On Saturday morning around 0800 hours members took Brush 5 to stand by at the annual Optimist Club fishing derby. The event is held in memory of Allie Raley and is located on his family farm in Avenue.

Starting at 8 a.m., kids lined up around the pond waiting for the word to cast their lines and start the derby. Not long after the lines hit the water the fish started biting. The kids started reeling in fresh water bass and blue gill fish.

The fishing ended at 10:30 a.m. and lunch was served by the Optimist Club. After a great lunch, awards were given out to the participants. The awards were broken down into age group and size of the fish caught.

Everyone had a great time and we look forward to taking part again next year
