Working Structure Fire In Avenue

On Wednesday at 1325 hours, Station 5 and surrounding companies were alerted to a structure fire on River Springs Road in Avenue. Engine 52 arrived and laid a supply line from the end of the driveway. Chief 5A arrived and located a two story single family home with fire showing. Chief 5A established the command.

Engine 52, Tanker 5 and Tanker 51s crews utilized attack lines from Engine 52 and advanced to both Division one and division two. Engine 23 arrived next and utilized an additional hand line from 52 and advanced to the garage.

Initial attack crews made an aggressive attack on the fire. Both Truck 1 and Truck 7 set up on side alpha. Chief 5A requested a Tanker Task Force bringing an additional Engine and three additional Tankers to the scene.

Tanker 14 and Engine 73s crews were both utilized and relieved initial attack crews, operating on both divisions. The Truck companies opened up and secured utilities at the scene. The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes.

Water supply site was established at the end of River Springs Road by Engine 73 at the boat ramp. Additional crews arriving on the scene were utilized to conduct overhaul.

SMECO along with the fire investigator were requested to respond. The incident is currently under investigation by the Maryland State Fire Marshals Office.

All units returned to quarters within 3 hours.
