On Thursday around1400 hours, students from The Heights School in Potomac, Maryland traveled to the area to complete their 10th annual swim to St. Clement's Island. This year about 53, 11th grade students plunged into the river and began the mile long swim. The students make this swim after biking 37 miles to Colton's Point from Cobb Island. Once they have completed the swim and spent the night on the Island they will officially be seniors at their school.

After the 1 hour mark the first student made it to the island. In all about 7 of the students were successful in completing the swim without assistance from rescue crews. Students not able to make the full swim were plucked out of the water and given a lift by Raft 7, Raft 22 Boat 5 and Charles Boat 6. Units returned to quarters at approximately 1630 hours.
