On Friday at 0915 hours, a commercial building fire assignment was put out in Company 5's first due at Dynard Elementary School. The dispatch brought Companies 5,1,2,7, Truck 1 and La Plata Truck 1. Truck Co. 3 was assisting at the Tech Center in Leonardtown and was added to the box. Chief 5 arrived on scene, sides A and B with nothing evident and the school had been evacuated. After confirming with communications and the faculty, a trailer on side B of the structure was determined to have be the origin, with fire located in the walls of Trailer #9. Engine 54 arrived and stretched a 1 3/4" hand line into the trailer, encountering a heavy haze of smoke. After checking the unit with a thermal imager, an exterior HVAC unit was discovered to have caught fire. The fire was contained to the HVAC unit with no further extension. Truck 3 assisted with ventilation and the remainder of the assignment was returned. Units operated for one hour and Chief 5 held the Dynard Command.
