June 20, 2013

On Thursday afternoon at 1405 hours Company 5 was alerted for an EMS Assist on Pleasant Harbor Way in Abell. The call was for a subject that was reported to have been thrown from a lawn mower off an embankment and into a creek. Engine 54 responded at dispatch and initial reports stated that the subject had been removed from the water. Engine 54 arrived on scene and met Captain 5 who advised the subject had initially been pinned under the mower and was free but was still in the water and down an embankment. The engine crew put to use the stokes basket and several sections of rescue rope. The subject was able to be removed from the water quickly without incident. From there the crew assisted with patient care and began securing the machinery which was still in the water. The mower was located near a pier and seawall and posed a risk to local boaters. Crews operated for approximately 2 hours assisting the homeowner with removing the mower from the water. Engine 54 returned to quarters at 1600 hours.
