By Fire Chief J.A. Nelson
November 16, 2013

At 0715 on Saturday morning, Company 1 was alerted to a mulch fire on Bachelors Rest Lane in Clements. Upon arrival, units located a large mulch pile on fire. Upon further assessment an additional tanker and Water Supply 5 was requested to respond to the scene. Tanker 5, Water Supply 5 and Brush 5 all responded to the scene.

Water Supply 5 set up a draft and fill site for tanker shuttle operations on Budds Creek Road in Clements. A third tanker was also requested by command for the shuttle. Tanker 5 set up the portable tank and Engine 11 supplied the water from the tank. Truck 1 utilized a ladder pipe at the mulch pile and flowed water in conjunction with front end loaders that moved the mulch to access the fire.

Water Supply 5 filled the three tankers with over 20,000 gallons of water that was transported to the scene. Units operated for over three hours before returning to quarters.

Units: Tanker 5, Brush 5, Water Supply 5, Command 5

Mutual Aid: Engine 11, Engine 14, Truck 1, Brush 1, Engine 74
