On Wednesday at 1400 hours, students from The Heights School in Potomac, Maryland traveled to the area to complete their annual swim across the Potomac River to St. Clement's Island. This year about 50 11th grade students plunged into the river and began the mile long swim. The students make this swim after biking to Colton's Point from Cobb Island. Once they have completed the swim and spent the night on the Island they will officially be seniors at their school.
After only about 30 minutes the first student made it to the island. In all about half of the students were successful in completing the swim. Students not able to make the full swim were given a lift by Raft 7, Raft 22 and Boat 5. Units returned to quarters at approximately 1600 hours.
