On Sunday afternoon at 1543 hours, Stations 5, 1, 2, 7, and 59 were alerted to a house fire on Van Ward Road in Abell. Reports were of a fire in the kitchen with visible flames and smoke. Chief 5 responded and arrived on the scene with nothing evident.
After further investigation it was found the home owner had extinguished the bulk of the fire inside the house. Engine 54, 51 and Squad 5 were held and the rest of the box was returned. The crews checked the house for extension and set up a fan for ventilation.
Units operated on the scene for about 20 minutes before returning to quarters.
