At 0938 hours Sunday, Stations 5, 1, 2, 7, 9 and 6 along with EMS Stations 59 and 19 were alerted to a working house fire on Dickerson Road in Abell. Chief 5 arrived and located a single story home with fire showing from the Alpha and Delta sides. Chief 5 established the "Abell Command." All occupants were confirmed to be out of the house and not injured.
Engine 52 laid a 5" supply line into the scene, which was picked up by Tanker 5. Engine 52 deployed a handline to the front door while Engine 51 pulled a back up line. Crews began making an attack on the fire which had progressed throughout the entire home.
As additional units arrived, two additional lines were pulled from Engine 52 and taken to the Charlie side of the house. Truck 1, Engine 23, Tanker 24 and Tanker 14s crews all assisted in extinguishing the fire. Truck 7 conducted a search of the home upon arrival.
Engine 93 and Squad 6 established RIT on side alpha. The fire was brought under control in 20 minutes and all units were held for overhaul.
Engine 72 was initially sent to a draft site on Golden Thompson Road but was later brought to the scene. Once all hot spots were extinguished units were released. Company 5 units return to quarters at 1305 hours.
The Maryland State Fire Marshals Office was requested to investigate the cause of the fire. Red Cross was requested to assist the occupants. |
